KFZ 2018 Drop-in Workshops & Activities

September 12, 2018

Risograph Printing Workshop
Led by Jonathan McFadden
Location: SA/VS Print Room (second floor)
Bridging the gap between a conventional photocopier and laser printer, Risograph printing, (Riso), is a simple but efficient tool that produces results similar to offset printing. Many illustrators and designers use Risography Printing as a more economical alternative to silk screen printing, this technique is growing in popularity. Join us for a Riso printing workshop. You will be able to bring hand drawn or collaged imagery as well as pdf files with an image area no larger than 8” x 10”. This workshop will introduce participants to a casual drop in introduction to risograph printing basics and collaborative zine making.

Instant Mini-Zine Workshop
Led by David Wischer
Location: TBA
Make an 8-page mini-zine using one sheet of paper! In this hands-on workshop, learn how a series of clever folds and one cut with scissors can easily create a small zine without staples or binding. Paper and mark making materials (pens, pencils, markers, etc) will be provided, and volunteers will be on hand to explain and demonstrate the process. Bring your own images or create your own drawings or writing during the workshop.

KFZ Shirts (and more)!

Led by Chelsea Clarke
Location: SA/VS Print Room (second floor)
Come and make your own Kentucky Fried Zine fest t-shirt, tote bag, back patch - whatever! Bring any reasonably flat surface you want to print on and we’ll be there with screens and ink, ready to go. We can even show you how to pull a print yourself, if you want to! A limited number of printed KFZ shirts will also be available for purchase!

Make Your Own Buttons
Led by Michelle Aiello & Scott Puckett
Location: Ground level gallery / atrium
The KFZ crew will have their trusty bottom maker on hand to make cool accessories from your designs. Bring hand drawn art, magazine or zine clippings, or choose from our big ol' pile of art to make a custom 1" button of your very own.

Contribute to ITEM: Our Collective Zine
Led by Renmeleon & family
Location: Ground level gallery / atrium
Throughout the day, zine fest attendees will have the chance to contribute drawings, comics, writing and more to our collaborative zine. This is your chance to make an on-the-spot piece based on anything you like. BYO art supplies! After the fest, ITEM will be available as a download on kfzines.org.
